Update to 64-bit Vista or go XP SP3??

Hey there, Im currently using vista 32-bit, an OEM I got with my laptop but the validation is running out, I need to update my OS. I was considering going Vista 64-bit but I don't know what I'm getting into.

Would XP SP3 be a better way to go in this instance?

well it honestly depends on your hardware so if you could please post your laptop system specs I could help you out but most likely xp sp3 because vista 64 needs a lot to run it fine.

I forgot to mention its not for me laptop, its for my desktop.

Gigabyte EP45
3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo E8400
4 Gigs Corsair DDR2
9800GT

Those should be all the specs you need for an OS right? I didn't wanna list useless info.

go with vista 64 your system should handle it well since you have a core 2 duo it'll actually be used for its full potential with vista 64 rather than xp

Re: Update to 64-bit Vista or go XP SP3??

I agree that a Core 2 Duo can handle Vista x64. However, I have seen many disasters with XP --> Vista upgrades, let alone x86 --> x64.

Be sure that you can find x64 drivers for all devices. They must be signed or will be useless. You may want to try Windows Server x64 first before purchasing Vista x64 to make sure all is well. Server 2008 and Vista SP1 are one in the same with different functionality but have the same kernel base.

Server 2008 Trial - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...us/try-it.aspx

Run the Vista upgrade compatibility advisor - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

Check your hardware on the Windows Vista Logo site - http://winqual.microsoft.com/hcl/default.aspx

Regards. . .
