My notebook keeps crashing when syncing with itunes.
My notebook keeps crashing on me, typically when I'm trying to sync my ipod in itunes but it happens at other times usually when a program is in the middle of doing something. The screen just goes blank and the notebook switches itself off. Sometimes when I turn it on again Windows won't make any acknowledgement of a shutdown. At other times it offers me the choice of either starting Windows normally or running repairs. If I run repairs it doesn't fix the problem and often freezes. It tells me there has been a terminal error and advises me to update my BIOS.
My notebook is an HP G7000. I'm running Windows Vista Service Pack 1. I contacted HP and they got me to update my BIOS which is now at version 34. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: My notebook keeps crashing when syncing with itunes.
Hi -
Please follow THESE instructions. I'll take a look at the resulting output and see what I can find. The black screen sounds like a hardware problem. Is the laptop still under HP warranty? Are there any driver updates available.... did you allow HP to scan your system to check? The model G7000 may be generic. Check this HP support page out to see if your specific model is on the list. Let HP scan the system for driver updates. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: My notebook keeps crashing when syncing with itunes.
Hi -
I found 239 app crashes beginning on Sept 10, 2008. This includes 6 BSODs - the first on Dec 18, 2008; the most recent on Feb 7. I have 3 dump files. The bugchecks: 0x7e (0xc0000005, 0x87f89359, 0x8a4d24ec, 0x8a4d21e8), probable cause = ecache.sys - the MS Ready Boost driver 0xc000021a (0x8a072e28, 0x0, 0xc0000001, 0x100468), prob cause = ntkrpamp.exe - the NT Kernel 0xc000021a (0x8871d148, 0x0, 0xc0000001, 0x100468), prob cause = ntkrpamp.exe - the NT Kernel 0x7e = SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - a system thread generated an exception that the error handler did not catch. The exception is the 1st parm - 0xc0000005 = a memory access violation. 0xc000021a = STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED - an error has occurred in a crucial user-mode subsystem. Kernel dumps will not help us with a 0xc000021 bugcheck BSOD because the error occurred in a user-mode process. The 0x7e cause could be software or hardware - hardware mismatch, harware incompatibility, faulty system service, etc... You need to go to HP UK and update your drivers. They should have caught this when they had you do a BIOS update. Any trust that I had in HP flew out the window after having to deal with them (HP USA) on one of my systems here. http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/...e.html#Support There is one driver that I found in the dumps that caught my attention - Code:
ASPI32.SYS Fri Sep 10 19:46:10 1999 http://www.vistax64.com/vista-genera...spi32-sys.html PERFMON shows these 2 files as having the most disk I/O - don't know what they are: Code:
C:\Users\J****\Downloads\30 Rock S03E05\30.Rock.S03E05.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi C:\Users\Jamie\AppData\Local\Mic..\PID_889029_pkr_234x60_winter08_broadband[1].flv I noticed that you are having Internet trouble. One reason is due to outdated device drivers. The primary cause I believe is Norton Internet Security. I would advise that you get rid of it as it and others like it with a personal firewall cause many problems in Vista and now Windows 7. Use the Norton Removal tool (NRT). Download it and SAVE it to your desktop. Close all Windows, then RIGHT-click on the NRT icon and run as administrator. When complete - re-boot. NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe Now reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings - START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply (if hi-lighted) | Click OK Check out WERCON and take a look at some of the 100's of app crashes that I mentioned. You may want to think about re-installing Vista. START | wercon | view problem history The dump logs are attached. Summary info below. Regards. . . jcgriff2 bugcheck summary Code:
