Re: How to reformat / reinstall vista completely??

I had an XP computer I wanted to reformat and do a full re-install of XP, but the install disk I had refused because the existing OS was more updated than what was on the disk. (Duh!)

So I downloaded a Linux (I think it was Ubunto), made the install disk for it, then did a replacement install of Linux. That effectively wiped Windows off that computer and eliminated the stoopid message that was preventing me from reformatting and re-installing.

Hello peggy,

If you have the Vista Recovery DVD you will need to change your boot

order to cdrom first and then boot to the disc. You can make this

change in the BIOS. However most system ship with a recovery

partition that will restore the computer back to factory settings.

This can usually be accomplished by pressing a "F" key during

startup (maybe F10 in your case) it will normally prompt at the

hp boot screen may be in one of the corners. If available this

would be the best option.
