Post Connection Problem?

Hi everyone. I am currently having a problem with my laptop. I can use programs such as Internet Explorer and MSN and they connect to the internet fine but when I downloaded and installed firefox, it did not connect to the internet. So I made some firewall allow rules and it still did not connect. I downloaded safari and did the same yet it too could not connect to the internet. I even tried completely switchinf off firewalls and it still couldnt connect. I am unable to view webpages with these browsers. My brother and I have the exact same laptop and are using our laptops on the same computer network. On his laptop, he can download, install and use these internet browsers such as firefox and safaria whereas I can't :(. This problem is not just confined to internet browsers, an online game would also not connect to the internet and the same happened for EA Downloader. Does anyone have any idea of the problem?

Thanks :)

*I forgot to say I am using Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 on a HP Pavilion Dv6700*

Re: Connection Problem?

Hmm. From the symptoms, I'd agree that it sounds as though there is a firewall preventing connection.

* You mentioned turning off the firewall. Is that an appliance/hardware firewall you turned off? If so, then physically remove it from the network.

* Are you using something like Zone Alarm? Or any software firewall? If so, confirm that it is disabled.

* Is the Vista firewall turned off?

* Is User Account Control turned on? Turn it off for testing.

Post back responses when available.

Re: Connection Problem?

Thank you for taking your time to reply to me.

Yes, once I tried turning off all of my protection - Kaspersky. Also I turned off the Windows protection and then restarted the pc. Then tried to run firefox but it still didn't connect to the internet.

I've never heard of Zone Alarm and I've not seen it on my pc, so I don't have it.

When you say Vista Firewall, you are referring to the Windows firewall?

I'll try the User Acount Control now.

Thanks.

Re: Connection Problem?

Take a look at this ... " Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can" --support.mozilla.com
It may help with your Firefox issue, ...
... and may give some insight to what's causing your connection problems.
