[SOLVED] PC Name hack
I work in the IT dept of a very large gov't network. currently we are trying to implement a way to automatically display the computer name somewhere that is easy to find for the end user.
Currently, there are a large number of PC's that have the computer name listed in the taskbar, as a toolbar. this is done by creating an empty folder named after the computer name, and setting it as a toolbar in the task bar. does anyone know of a way to deploy this automatically network wide? we have been doing research on this all day, and have only found a VB script that will pull the name from the registry, but don't exactly know how to get further. i have heard of this being done before. Also, we are currently running XP, and this needs to work on Win7 eventually as well. |

Re: PC Name hack
@joeten
I figured it out. We came across a really good app for this. We have been using SMS and it has worked fine, but there are sometimes this doesn't work so well, that's why we wanted another app to fill in the gap. Soon after posting I found BGinfo. It seems very promising. Thanks for the input! |
