startup problem
my computer has trouble starting i am using vista when i turn the computer on you can hear the computer but nothing happens then after a while the green light comes on then the red light if i leave it for five or so minutes and press the reset button both lights come on and the computer starts up as it should if i reformat my computer will it fix it or would i be wasting my time i am not very technically minded or should i just let a professional have a look any help would be appreciated

Hi, this time use your Vista DVD same as before only go past the startup repair and go to "command prompt" at the prompt type chkdsk /r press enter be prepared for a wait it can take hours to run let it do it's thing then reboot when it is finished.. post back the results.

Hi, unless you have made some settings in the Bios then I believe you may have a failing HDD. You could run the manufacturers diagnostics for the drive I would be slaving that drive to backup my data asap. I believe you should request this thread be moved to the hardware, Hard drive support for more expert help.
