[SOLVED] SP1 problems
I've tried to install Service Pack 1 (SP1) on my computer 4 times now, and It doesn't seem to work. It will get to 100% on step 3, and then just says that it did not install, and then reverts back all my settings. This last time however, when it restored my settings, it screwed up my volume and quicktouch drivers, which caused me to have to restore it to an earlier time. Now everything is working, but I was wondering if you guys had any idea what could be causing this to happen, so i can install this important update. I ran CHKDSK, and it didn't show any problems.
HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC 32-bit OS .....and here are the error details for SP1.. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) Installation date: 1/20/2009 5:23 PM Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80041315 I've never had any crashes or any major problems that I can think of that may have caused this. No viruses/trojans/etc... sorry if i missed anything that you needed to know. I'm hoping you guys can help me out.. thank you for your time. |

Re: SP1 problems
Hello CDN1212,
Are you trying to install the update through Windows Update? Have you tried installing the standalone installer. What Anti-virus/Firewall or you using? Did you try disabling it before installing SP1. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/win...6f2021033.mspx |

Re: SP1 problems
Hi CDN1212, welcome to the forums..
try again but this time disable your anti-virus/firewall program during the process. Do you use McAfee?

Re: SP1 problems
Yes, i used the windows update version.
I haven't tried the standalone installer, I'll try that tomorrow, and see if anything changes. I am using Mcafee, so I'll make sure to disable that as well. Since firewalls and such interfere, should I disable windows firewall as well? btw, thanks for the quick replies. |

Re: SP1 problems
Well if your McAfee program includes a firewall, you should definitely disable one of them as it can lead to severe issues having more than one firewall or anti-virus program running at the same time.

Re: SP1 problems
I got halfway through downloading the standalone and it stopped, and after about 10 minutes, i canceled it. when i went back to the page with the download link, I got a "We're sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. I can't get to it anymore, is their another place that I can download this at? I'd search myself, but I want to make sure it is legit.

Re: SP1 problems
I was unable to get to the site about 30 minutes ago as I was getting the same error.
Just tried and was able to get to the Microsoft download link. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |

Re: SP1 problems
Try this...
Disable the Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Services by following these instructions: - Click Start -> Run -> type: services.msc - Click OK - Scroll down to and double click: Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Using the drop down box, change the startup type to 'Disabled' then click 'Stop' then OK - Scroll down to and double click: Windows Update - Using the drop down box, change the startup type to 'Disabled' then click 'Stop' then OK Once you have done that, go to the following location: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download Delete the entire contents of this folder. These are just the downloaded Windows Update files, after running Windows Update, these serve no purpose at all and are safe to delete...plus you're able to reclaim some space in the process too. Once you have done that, go back to services.msc and reverse the changes you made to Windows Update and the Background Intelligent Transfer Services (double click them, change startup type to 'Automatic', click 'Apply' then 'Start' then OK. Then disable McAfee and try running Windows Update again...from the Start Menu or: - Start -> Run -> type: wuapp.exe - Click Ok Let us know if that helps please

Re: SP1 problems
nickster_UK, I followed your last posts directions. I'm not sure if it was disabling Mcafee, or clearing the old updates, or if it was both, but it worked this time. I didn't even have to use the standalone. Thanks for all for your help guys, I really appreciate it.
