OS: Vista Home Premium 32-Bit

Computer Hiccuping/Lack of shutdown

Stats:
Vista Home Premium 32-bit no SP
AMD Athlon 5600+ Dual processor 2.60 ghertz
2046 mb RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT App. 1024 RAM
Inspiron 531

I installed Mirror's Edge along with the latest Nvidia Patch along with a PhysX 9.0 patch I'm not sure if this is relevant.

One day randomly my computer freezes. I force shutdown the computer. The next time I attempt startup repair, hearing some disturbing noises from my computer. The computer Blue-screens.
Afterwards, the computer failed to properly go through 16-bit processes and I had to constantly force shutdown the computer, until finally in safe mode, I managed to run a system restore.

While my computer still runs now, I'm increasingly concerned. Running several registry cleaners, I've began to realize that too many files are coming up invalid, even though I've never touched them. Basic functions such as clip-ons on Microsoft Management Console (what?) and etc. I fear that the list is growing.

My second issue is that my computer starts to hiccup. After a boot from a 24 hour non-usage, it first completely screen freezes. Now each program hiccups, all at the same time. Unfortunately I can not even tell whether CPU process is spiking as task manager hiccups as well. It gets increasingly worse in videogames.

My third issue is that I can no long shut down my computer. It gets as far as the "Windows is shutting down" and the loading circle, and finally I can not hear anything processing. The computer stays on that screen, without a hint of anything being done.

Not only that, but I can not properly disable drivers anymore, especially nonfunctioning ones. The process freezes entirely

My last concern is on the event viewer. Every 30-31 seconds a process called nvstor32.sys sends this command : Reset to device \Device\RaidPort0 was issued. I'm afraid this is truly the cause of my plight.

As I write this I checked the event viewer again. The nvstor32 errors have stopped by I believe it is at the cost of a service: parallel port and/or npkcrypt. Also, the computer has lost function in 2 PCI ports, although I can't tell if it has any effect.

Any ideas as to a simple solution?

Edit: I've been nvstor32 free for 30 minutes now, and I see a major improvement in performance. Hiccups seem to almost disappear. Unfortunately I had downgrade my SATA controllers, yet Vista has insisted on reupgrading them. Is there anyway to prevent vista from updating drivers?
