Issues with XP32bit and Vista 64bit on same HDD

Hey all, today tuned up my pc, before I only had vista64 bit on it. I decided to add xp32bit because I was having compatibility issues with a few pieces of software I needed to have. I decided just to wipe the c drive compleltely and free up some space, backed up everything I need to keep on an external drive. After I formatted the drive I went and installed XP 32 bit, I had no issues, installed all my drivers and software and the XP side was up and running.

Then I created a new partition, formatted and installed vista64 bit. Once again no issues, got all the drivers and software on there and was in business.

Now the issue seems to be between the two although I'm not certain. When I boot from the xp side then reboot to switch to vista it works fine. But it seems that when I reboot again to switch back to XP I get a blue error screen. It says something is wrong with a driver or something. I copied down the technical info, I was hoping someone could help me fix this issue.

Technical Info:
***STOP:0x0000000A (0x0000006C,0x000000002,0x00000001,0x806E6A16)

*^That's what the blue screen said, I have no idea what the issue means.

P.S, I hope that I put this in the right category on the forum, I wasn't 100% sure where to post.

Thanks,
Kevin DiGennaro

Re: Issues with XP32bit and Vista 64bit on same HDD

thanks for the response, that was sorta helpful, says that it could be a bad driver, the problem is I just installed ALL the drivers for my computer, on the 64 bit and on the 32 bit. So I have no idea where to look to see which driver it may be, my suspicion would be the drivers that came with the mobo, but they seem to be fine

hi go to start control panel in classic view device manager look for any yellow! and update it one other question did you install the chipset driver for the mobo it should be on the disk that came with the mobo or just go to the mobo mfr site and download the newest drivers if you have any graphics or sound cards go to mfr site for those and do the same

Re: Issues with XP32bit and Vista 64bit on same HDD

Everything is installed fine on the xp side with exception of one audio driver that just needs an update, I'll check the vista side and edit this post, as for the chip set I did install the drivers.

Thanks,
Kevin

Edit: Drivers seem to be fine on the vista side, I guess I'll just monitor the problem and see if it keeps happening. I'm hopefully it will go away, windows just installed an update, maybe something was out of date, ill keep you posted.

Thanks again,
Kevin DiGennaro

You can run the driver verifier on both OS's. If it finds a faulty driver, it blue screens (it's meant to, so it's a good blue screen :D) with the bugcode C4. It should hopefully tell you which driver crashed the system.

Instructions:

Quote:
Run Driver Verifier -
START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe uptop under programs | Run as Administrator | type verifier & hit enter - the Verifier screen will appear | do the following:

Code:

1. Select 2nd option - Create custom settings (for code developers)
2. Select 2nd option - Select individual settings from a full list.
3. Check the boxes• Special Pool
• Pool Tracking
• Force IRQL checking4. Select last option - Select driver names from a list
5. Click on the Provider heading - sorts list by Provider
6. Check ALL boxes where Microsoft is not the Provider
7. Click on Finish
8. Re-boot
If the Driver Verifier (DV) finds a violation, it will result in a BSOD -

Status of Verifier - verifier - select the last option on the first screen - "Display information about the currently verified drivers..".

To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot.

If you get a verifier-enabled BSOD, get it ASAP - go to \windows\minidump - get it, zip it up and attach.

Thanks for the reply, before you replied I got this error,

STOP:c0000135
{Unable to locate Component}

This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found, Reinstalling the application may solve this problem.

I rebooted and did what you said, and got the following error,

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
BAD_POOL_CALLER
