Re: problems with icons

Are you using classic start menu instead of start menu?
Classic start menu looks like this: http://www.vista4beginners.com/files...tartm/csm4.jpg and doesn't have my computer in it.
(non-classic) Start menu looks like this: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk...StartMenu3.jpg and has my computer on it on the right half.
If that's where the problem lies, just right click on your taskbar, and pick properties, and go to the start menu tab and switch to the one you want.

Generally if you have (non-classic) start menu you won't have desktop icons for my computer, my documents, network neighborhood, etc. but you can force it. Right click on your desktop, pick personalize, go to change desktop icons on the left, and check the boxes for which icons you want on the desktop.
Same instructions with graphics here: http://www.petri.co.il/add_desktop_i...dows_vista.htm
