Problem with ICS

My host computer runs Windows Vista and my Client runs XP SP2

My host computer gets internet via wireless, and I have an ethernet cable running from my host to my client.

Host Settings - Local Area Connection Enabled
Wireless Network Connected, Shared

Client - Local Area Connection Enabled - Obtain IP/DNS automatically

The client's internet works fine (most of the time, sometimes choppy) but my HOST loses internet (even while the client still runs internet perfectly).

It will work for awhile then magically go out, but when I disable shared, comes right back, then I have to wait a few hours before it will work on shared again...how do I fix this?

Re: Problem with ICS

Check the Event Viewer for clues - Custom Filtered/Admin to start
START | eventvwr.msc

Re: Problem with ICS

Are you using a straight through or a cross-over ethernet cable?

Re: Problem with ICS

If you are directly connecting two like devices (PC and PC), you must use a crossover cable. Otherwise, you must place a switch/hub between the two, and you can use straight through cables. Straight through cables, are regular ethernet cables you would find in the store. Crossover cables are not quite as common, and are normally labeled differently and possibly even a different color if from the same manufacturer.

For example, Geek Squad branded cables are normally grey, with their crossover cables being orange.
