[SOLVED] Vista Internet Problem--Please Help!
Hi All, I have read some of the posts regarding this issue but did not see a solution posted. We have just bought a new Dell laptop for my niece who is about to start college and cannot get the internet to work. I have tried to provide all the information requested from reading the previous posts on similiar issues.
The OS is Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and I have a linksys broadband wireless router. The computer can locate my router, because it says we have local and internet connectivity and shows that data packages are being passed, and the IP address was updated (so it's reading that from the router right?) however we cannot access the internet. The following is the error page provided (i have numbered the sections to reference them): Code:
1. "WINDOWS CONFIRMED THAT "PRIMARY DNS SERVER" IS CURRENTLY ONLINE, BUT IS NOT RESPONDING TO CONNECTION ATTEMPTS AT THIS TIME. 2. This usually means that the firewall is running somewhere between the two computers and is blocking "domain". Windows has confirmed that Windows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this connection. However a remote firewall may be blocking your connection 3. The following policy might need to be adjusted to allow windows to connect: Policy Provider: Trend NSC Filter Name:~Trend NSC, ACL, 65535-1,count:3,cond:0, weight:16842750, Dir:out If this policy provider idnetifired is Windows Firewall, click for information adjusting Windows Firewall Settings. 4. Reset the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" Here is the information provided when I execute "ipconfig/all" Code:

Hi. . .
Please run msinfo32 and save as NFO file - START | type msinfo32 - you'll see NFO file ext when you go to save it Most likely PC came w/ internet security suite like Norton, Kaspersky, Mcafee that must be removed. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Vista Internet Problem--Please Help!
Zip up the file - right-click on it, select Send To compressed (zipped) folder. You'll find same filename but ending in .zip - attach that to post.

Re: Vista Internet Problem--Please Help!
Hi. . .
Trend Micro Internet Security is on your system. I recommend removing it. Scroll 1/2 way down - "Uninstall using the TISSuprt.exe file" - follow the instructions. One exception - this is Vista so RIGHT-click on the file TISSuprt.exe and select Run as Administrator. If file not there, try other methods. Re-boot upon completion. Now reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings - START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply (if hi-lighted) | Click OK You do need anti-virus. I use AVG 8 free edition on 2 systems here. http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe You have an Intel 5100 wireless - I have the same. Good product. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: [SOLVED] Vista Internet Problem--Please Help!
Oh My Goodness I just solve the problem and I’m so excited to let you all know.
I have Vista as well and was having the same issue with connecting to my router but not the Internet. (Get to the Network Connections screen; sorry I don’t know a shorter way) Go to your START menu Click on NETWORK Go the to the toolbar across the top and click on NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER Look on the left and click on MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS. RIGHT CLICK on the Wireless Network Connection icon. Go to PROPERTIES ** you may have to put in your Admin Password of just say Continue to the next popup** In the list under “this connection uses the following items:’ CLICK on INTERNET PROTOCAL VERSION 4 (TCP/IPv4) Select PROPERTIES near the lower right See if you are setup for “Obtain an IP address automatically” ALSO Obtain DNS server address automatically I wasn’t and this was my issue, then select OK. You may have to do the same last steps for INTERNET PROTOCAL VERSION 6 (TCP/IPv6) |
