Hi guys,
I hope you can help me. My Acer laptop has been running Vista OK until today when I switched it on and suddenly I have a BSOD. The first error code is 0x00000051 (0x00000001, 0x88C23350, 0x0147F000, 0x00000368). The second error code that also occurs from today is 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x825570E6, 0x93F33A9C, 0x00000000). I've tried running safe mode with networking and also the mode when it last worked (can't remember the exact term) but I still just get another BSOD with one of the two above codes. What can I do to fix it? I desperately need to be able to access my digital photos

Re: BSOD - 2 separate error codes
Quote:
Welcome back - good to see you again. Sorry under BSOD circumstances. The bugchecks - 0x51 = REGISTRY_ERROR = severe registry error has occurred. Usual causes are registry corruption or hard drive problem (can't load all registry files). 0x8e = KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - a kernel mode app threw an exception not caught by error routine. Exception is 1st parm - 0xc0000005 - memory access violation. This c/b bad driver or kernel mode app itself. Hardware of course may be culprit. If safemode and Last known good config did not help, invoke recovery partition or boot-up w/ Vista DVD try Windows Vista system restore 1st; system repair next. You also should run hardware diagnostics in recovery partition - but try others 1st - pics 1st priority to save. chkdsk /r can be run from windows. Regards. . . JC . |

Re: BSOD - 2 separate error codes
Hi JC,
Thanks for the response again, last time my BSOD problem appeared to resolve itself! I only have a Vista upgrade DVD (my laptop came with XP preinstalled but no XP disks). Will the upgrade disk help me? I have a lot of artwork, documents, mp3s, and of course my photos that I can't afford to lose from the hard drive (I'm not worried about the program files as they're mainly free downloads such as AVG, zonealarm etc so I can easily get them back once the laptop is back working). Sorry to be a pain, but please can you tell me step by step what I should do first? Thanks |

Re: BSOD - 2 separate error codes
Are you running Vista SP1 and is the upgrade disk SP1?

Re: BSOD - 2 separate error codes
The upgrade pack consisted of 2 disks in an Acer branded wallet.
The disks are labelled:
I received them about 10-11 months ago I think. I haven't installed any service pack (I'm in the middle of trying to decide which is the best external hard drive to buy and intended moving all my files across to that and trying to return the laptop to factory settings and starting with a clean sheet so didn't want to download too much in the meantime). I also have the recovery disks that I made when I first got the machine (running XP Professional and made as soon as I first switched the laptop on i.e. before any software, files etc were put on the machine). However, I'm not sure how to use these and if I use them, whether I would lose all my music, artwork and photos. Last edited by katiesam; 12-10-2008 at 03:49 PM. |

Re: BSOD - 2 separate error codes
The XP discs can't be used.
The Vista Upgrade ones may allow a system repair. Try them - if only option to reinstall, back out. See PM please. |
