Games Won't Run

I've had a problem running a few games on my laptop. I run the program, the screen flashes black as if adjusting the resolution 2 or 3 times, a tab for the game appears on the taskbar, then disappears as if nothing ever happened. Why does this occur?

Have you tried updating the games, and also graphics card drivers?
