Vista Crashing Randomly on Acer Laptop

Hi All!

I'm running Vista Home Premium on my Acer Aspire 5720Z.

Lately, windows will crash and die. One minute my computer will be on, the next it will crash completely. This appears to happen for no reason and at any time.

When i turn the computer back on (it shuts off completely) it usually crashes exactly the same way when trying to load windows or it will get to a black screen just before it loads windows with the blinking white dash cursor and freeze on that screen.

Eventually, after many times of me computer turning on and off (or me having to turn it off and try again) I will get the option of starting windows normally, or in startup repair mode. Starting windows normally usually means it will crash while trying to load windows. Start up repair usually runs fine, but finds no problems in its search. After the repair is done, windows usually starts fine.

As I've said, this happens randomly. It'll happen a lot over a couple of days, then it won't happen for a week or so, then it will start doing it again.

Any help would be very very very much appreciated.

Thanks

Bicko.

Hi. . .

Does it do the same in SAFEMODE?

Black screen sounds like hardware issue - boot-up into recovery partition or w/ Vista DVD and run hardware diagnostics.

Re: Vista Crashing Randomly on Acer Laptop

Can't say ive tried running in safe mode.

Secondly, I never received the Vista DVD when i bought the laptop, it came already installed, I never got the disc (which sucks.)

Thirdly, how do I boot up into recovery partition?

Re: Vista Crashing Randomly on Acer Laptop

You should be able to burn Vista recovery discs from your system.

Click on start and type recovery - s/b option for burning DVDs as well as recovery partition.

To boot into recovery partition, most systems use the F10 key (like F8 in SAFEMODE); other combos are F11, ctrl+F11, esc keys.
