Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
Did you go to Seagate's site and look for HDD utilities?
Didn't the drive come pre-formatted? jcgriff2 . |

Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
Were there any problems w/ the installation of the software from CD? Is it "back-up" software? What were dates on files?
Most software like that is not compatible w/Vista. I personally NEVER use software that comes w/ external drives. Seagate site should have info on formatting drive. I am surprised it did not come formatted FAT32... although I am not sure if 1TB size is factor here. My largest is 500GB - most recent one came formatted FAT32; now partitioned and 1/2 NTFS. Device Manager - external not under "disk drives"? Any red/yellow flags present in DM? jcgriff2 . |

Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
Thank you so much! It's working right now, even know it's very very slow I will see if the fix works! The sight was good with pics for people like me very new to this. I'm not sure why I didn't thing of going to the source but thanks agian I will let you know if it works! The HDD came as is and the only reson why I would think is because I got it from a Tiger Dirrect?
No red or yellow flags. I didn't think it would be that simple? But no flags so I'm good there. The software is: Sata HDD storage series Ver 2.M.1 Ahhh here we go it's for Win 98SE Set up Driver! This even know the box said it would work with Vista and the Dude at the store said it would to! I'm still at 7% after 10 mins so I will be here for some time!!! Lol.... But thanks for your help!!!! Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
Hi. . .
Glad to hear suggestion helped. Those pics on site are really for people like me! I had similar issue back when and colleague suggested I check manufacturer's site - never thought about it myself. Are you running Vista x86 or x64? Be cautious about "works with Vista" - look for "Vista certified". BIG difference. As you just learned, it is often the case that the software accompanying product is from pre-Vista era. Regards. . . JC EDIT: p.s. - watch out for the "dudes at the store"... one told me recently when I bought x64 that 64-bit was better than 32-bit b/c it "holds twice as much"! Another said no way I could run x86 apps on x64 Intel P7350 and had to buy new software. Truth is most apps are x86 and will run on Intel Vista x64. . Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
Hi Dale. . .
What exactly is that software doing? Do you have control over the system during this process? If so, check Event Viewer to see whats going on. Where did you see Win 98 - a folder name? Regards. . . JC . p.s. Never USNORTHCOM - only light affiliation w/sister DoD related acronymous Agencies during/post college 1980-90's Reagan/Bush pres era's. |

Re: New Harddrive I can't format it? HELP!!!
FYI: It worked I`m using it with my PVR and no problems. 1TB HD of space is nice as I`m on the road a lot and like to have a few shows to watch when I get home. I worked with a few mbrs from USNORTHCOM in Texas and Manitoba. I`m still a CF mbr and have all the time in the world for our US mbrs!
