Vista, Lacie HD and Logitech webcam
Maybe this should be in another forum (HD support ?), but ...
For quite a while I have been running a stable Vista system, which includes a Logitech USB webcam. I recently added a Lacie 500GB external drive to hold backups. This can be attached via USB, Firewire, or eSATA - after some problems, I settled on Firewire - even though it's the slowest option. I normally don't power it up (it's for backups, after all), and all continues to go well. When I figure it's time to do a backup, I power it on, and typically save my entire C drive and sometimes other drives as well. The backups can be verified, and all is well. BUT - after this the webcam can't be found! Vista usually says (on reboot) there's an 'unknown device' hanging off a USB port - and if I uninstall that port to let Vista reinstall it - same thing... The only workaround I have found is to uninstall the webcam driver, remove the residual folder from C:\ProgramFiles, then manually edit the registry to erase all references to 'Logitech', and then finally reinstall the webcam driver. This is tedious, to say the least. And yes, I have the latest drivers from the manufacturers, and my BIOS is up-to-date. Has anyone had anything like this ??? I am at a complete loss to understand the situation. |
