Idle Crashes

AMD 5600+ x2 2.8ghz
EVGA 8800gt 512mb
Biostar TF7050-M2
600-700 W PSU (No lights in room cant find box:( will get brand and accurate specs later)

Vista (Just Reinstalled)
Drivers are up to date

My problem is simple my computer restarts when left idle for to long an hour...sometimes less.
This problem has persisted even after my reinstall.
I had SP1 but now I can't get much of any upgrades as I have to be active at my computer for it to stay running.

MemTest has shown no faults.
Check Disk shows no faults.

My own opinion is that it is a RAM or HDD problem.
And Chkdsk and memtest are not picking it up, however then I have to wonder why it doesnt restart when running M2:TW or WoW or CnC3 or any other game I have.

I tried to give as much info as I could, please tell me if you need more.

EDIT: I also tried sfc /scannow
EDIT: Attached the errors that were in my event log.

Re: Idle Crashes

I just had 3 restarts in a row.

It seems that opening a web browser causes a restart pretty quickley afterwords. I just had FF freeze up resulting in a restart

twice, then I had IE do the same thing. So I am writing this in Notepad. It may be interesting to note that when a restart happens

everything freezes. Then the screen goes black but I still have my mouse. Then the restart happens.

This problem really needs to be fixed. It freezes unless I am doing something./ And since I reinstalled I don't have any games

installed, which means I have to install ine. Which usually ends in a crash. I also cannot currently do my school work since I

can't really stay logged into Blackboard for very long. Also Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing.

EDIT: I will be unplugging my Ethernet cord and uninstalling my network card. I am hoping maybe this will explain the connection of FF and IE to my restarts.

My System

Re: Idle Crashes

Based on the system log, over 3,000 errors are recorded in a 6 hour time period on November 1 - 3 different time periods (1100-1300 hrs; 1530-1930; 2000-2100). The system is then dormant until Nov 21, when 11 ACPI errors are recorded in 2 hours (see blue). Many of the errors show Windows Updates downloaded, but unable to install. Here some other frequent errors:

The very first errors logged:
Code:
Error	11/1/2008 10:41:36 AM	atapi	11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.

Error	11/1/2008 10:49:59 AM	ACPI	6
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 13, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

-->> same message for
PCI slot 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,

Error	11/1/2008 10:53:23 AM	VSS	8194
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process.

Error	11/1/2008 11:04:58 AM	Time-Service	34
The time service has detected that the system time needs to be changed by +1735200 seconds. The time service will not change the system time by more than +54000 seconds. Verify that your time and time zone are correct, and that the time source time.windows.com,0x9 (ntp.m|0x9|0.0.0.0:123->207.46.232.182:123) is working properly.

Error	11/1/2008 11:04:42 AM	NETLOGON	3095
This computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not as a member of a domain. The Netlogon service does not need to run in this
configuration.

Error	11/1/2008 11:12:31 AM	Application Error	1000
Faulting application svchost.exe_EMDMgmt, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549adc4,
faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bdc9,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0003b15f,
process id 0x414, application start time 0x01c93c3124b7c3ba.

.

The last error listed is interesting. That is Ready Boost failing. EMDMgmt (EMD = External Memory Device) is a DLL that runs under svchost (generic Service Host provider) along with a ecache.sys, a volume filter driver. The item catching my attention is the exception code 0xc0000005 - an access violation. ntdll.dll tell me that NETBIOS ports are most likely blocked. All are no doubt pre-SP1.

Do you have a 3rd party firewall installed (NIS, KIS, COMODO, etc...)? If so get rid of it.

Then there are errors related to these 2 unknown system services:
Code:
iolo System Service
iolo FileInfoList Service
All errors where module names/ versions are listed show no sign whatsoever of Vista SP1 (Nov 1 = 1st log entry) .

I would not expect to see un-named system services in a new install. Do you know what they are? Why the 20 day system dormancy? Did you install Vista on Nov 1 then again on Nov 21?

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

Re: Idle Crashes

Before I answer your questions here is more info.

After Disabling my integrated network adapter the computer did not restart.
However it did get an error.
It said unable to launch restart.exe

Then when I checked my start menu everything was gone. The folders were there but they were empty.
The C:\\ drive was also gone and and my usb ports everything except my games drive which is a seperate hard drive and my dvd/cd

drive.

I then pressed the start button and restarted the computer, but it just stayed at a black screen which I then had to hold the

power button to get out of.

NOW to your questions.

I'm not sure why there are unnamed services, I installed Vista less than 24 hrs ago, the reference to the 1st is probably because the system clock is off and will not sync.

I have no third party software besides CCleaner and Advanced System Care.

Wait I actually do have something called Iolo I will delete it.

EDIT: Iolo System Mechanic has been deleted.
I also noticed that I have a yellow explanation mark next to SM BUS controller in the device manager.

Re: Idle Crashes

I'm currently unable to edit......so I figured I'd just let you know the reason for the huge delay in logs is that when I installed Vista less than 24 hrs ago the clock said it was nov 1st and at the time I didn't bother changing it.

Re: Idle Crashes

If I don't get this fixed soon I'll be purchasing 4 new gigs of ram and a network card.....I typed this message 3 times, whenever I access the internet my computer shortly freezes or restarts afterwords.........

EDIT: Not sure if anything I'm saying is helping you but my AMD says my cpu should be running with 1.35v but it runs with 1.09v I'm not sure if that fine or not but better safe than sorry.

Re: Idle Crashes

Wow I've made it to a quad post. I have been looking over the log and noticed the atapi id 11 error is associated with ide drives.....well all my hdd are sata so that must indicate a problem with the cd/dvd combo drive. I have disable it and will be testing to see if the problems are fixed. I don't see how a ide problem could make all this happen though.
Anyway if your still trying to figure out my problem just thought I would let you know what I'm trying.
And if your not still trying then i understand...:( my problem sucks.

PS sorry for quad post.

Re: Idle Crashes

Well, I've had no forced restarts since disabling and enabling the cd/dvd drive. I've also had no atapi 11 errors.
However since the install of service pack 1 have been unable to start windows without first resetting bios and pressing f11 until the screen comes up that i can press Windows Vista-32 (Restored)

EDIT: I did more testing, the bios step isn't required. Just the f11 step.

Also the error is
Failed to start
File: \boot\bcd
Status: Oxcoooooof
Info: Error while attempting to read boot configuration

Re: Idle Crashes

Well, the pc starts normal and runs fine. Thanks for the help you provided. I am however still curious how disabling and then reenabling the cd/dvd rom fixed the problem. If anyone can tell me that would be great.
