word and excel dropped from programs menu

I have Vista Home Premium which came installed on my HP PC. I installed Office 2007 which ran without problem til now. Both desk top icons for Excel and Word disappeared. Both Excel and Word do not appear listed under Programs, Office 2007. I can still create new spreadsheets and documents and I did not lose any files that I am aware of. The only thing I have done recently was delete an user account. I chose to save that user's files but I cannot find them. Two problems or are they related? Thanks for your help !

Was the user account that you deleted the one used to install Office 2007?
