Trying to troubleshoot my g/f's computer.
Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS210 (~1.5yrs old) Windows Update fails with a 800706BA error. It downloads, starts installation with progress bar, says "creating restore point" then fails. "Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" (Message Box) is also randomly popping up. Faulting application svchost.exe_wuauserv, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549adc4, faulting module vsstrace.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bdef, exception code 0xc000001d, fault offset 0x000095db, process id 0xeb0, application start time 0x01c94a8ef7c0ce16. I've tried the steps located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520 but with little luck. The computer has McAfee installed, but it won't update or function right either currently. Not sure if its a contributing factor or not. I'd like to fix this without reloading the OS, but it isn't looking good.. ![]() Thanks for any & all help with this problem. |
