Razz vista home premium RAM question

i have just bought a dell studio 17 laptop, its pretty good. 2.5 dual core, ati radeon HD 3650, 4gb RAM, vista home premium x32. and now im gonna ask a question that you have probably heard a million times.

it will only recognise 3582mb of my 4096mb ram (not much missing i know) but is there any way around the ram limitation without installing a 64-bit version?

it runs wicked cool as it is, im just curious.

also, is there any way i can scan my computer (referring to my desktop aswell) to see if the software installed on it will work on a 64 bit os?

not to keen on the idea of upgrading to 64 bit for my laptop, but for my desktop i would like to know that everything would work BEFORE i mess around installing the 64 bit os.

thanks in advance :)
