Re: blue screen shutdown bsod

Hi Grant. . .

The bugcheck on this BSOD = 0xd1, but no probable cause listed. Your last ones from prev thread were 0xd1 as well - caused by pfc027.sys - PixArt.

Were you able to get rid of PixArt?

Did you get your driver updates installed from HP?

Did you upgrade RAM from 1gb to at least 2gb?

Your previous thread -- http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...-shutdown.html

Regards. . .

Re: blue screen shutdown bsod

Hi Chris. . .

The RAM can wait - it is just a suggestion.

Pixart must go. I moved your thread b/c I thought you wanted a replacement for pixart, not un-install information.

I did alot of digging - but I found pixart hiding under another name.

The driver pfc027.sys runs under the system service PAC207 and has the description name EYE 110. Does this name mean anything to you? Is this pixart?

For now, go into sys services and disable it -
START | type services.msc into the start search box & hit enter.

Scroll down until you find pac207 - double-click on it. It should say "manual" now - you want to change that to disabled.

Let me know how it goes. Don't worry about all the stuff in the code box below. I just don't want to lose track of it - we will need it to un-install pixart.

Regards. . .

JC

Re: blue screen shutdown bsod

Hi Grant. . .

I don't know why you are unable to locate pac207. This is the same w/the driver pfc027.sys - the files I have from you show pfc027.sys is in \windows\system32 and that pac207 is a system service.

Is there any doubt that the reports you sent me were from the system you are looking on? I am now at a loss to explain how pixart ever entered in here as it now appears that pfc027.sys & pac207 belong to your webcam... and not to pixart..? Is your webcam external?

Hi Grant...

Plug your USB camera in, make sure it is running then do the following:
START | type msinfo32 & hit enter - Click on File, Save as, save as NFO file - NFO is the file extension.

Zip the file up and attach to your next post.

Go into Device Manager (START | type devmgmt.msc) | click on View | enable hidden devices | any red/ yellow flags?

Expand the tree branches & look for USB camera - pac207, Eye 110, pfc207.sys, etc... anything related.
Be sure to look under USB, Imaging Devices and USB areas.

You may need new webcam - not sure. What about pixart ? Where did it come from? Please tell me what pixart does for you that no other product can.

Did you go to manufacturer's site and update drivers???

Hi Grant...

No, no screen shots necessary.

Pixart should not be in the \windows folder - if legit program it should be iin \program files folder. Go back into Device Manager and disable it.

Hi Grant...

In your BSOD thread, you asked about a replacement for pixart. Then there was the thread in Graphic Design asking the same.

Your last post indicates that you don't know what pixart is.

I am lost here now. I'll have to go back and review posts to see if I can figure out how we got to this point.

Do you have your Vista DVD &/or Vista recovery partition? A re-install of Vista may just be the best way to un-install non-existent programs!

Bottom line right now Grant is that we are going in circles. I know you can't do much for the badly-needed RAM upgrade right now, but I would do Vista re-install and start over. Can you back up your personal files somewhere? Only documents, pictures, music, etc... any programs will have to be re-installed after Vista re-install.
