OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure

I have a new Dell Inspiron 530 with a Core 2 Quad processor and Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I have loaded Microsoft Equipt and also installed a Microsoft wireless entertainment 7000 keyboard and mouse. I had a problem in that the computer failed to recognize the DVD-RW drive but that has been fixed. Now, if I start the computer, it will not go past the opening bios page. I found that, if I remove the bluetooth receiver from the USB and plug in the USB keyboard, it will take me to a page where I get a message that says "Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure F-1 Continue F-2 Setup" and striking F-1 will load the computer so I can unplug the USB keyboard and replace the bluetooth receiver. Can someone advise me on how to fix this please? Thank You.

Re: Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure

Dear Retrochcop:
I just started setting up this same computer Dell Inspiron 530.
I am getting the same message on start up.
I have only put a few programs (McAfee virus protection, Eudora email) on the machine as I do not want to load data(programs, pics etc) from old computer
until I have this issue resolved.

I did not see any resolution to your question of 10-22-08. Did you resolve the problem, and if so, would you help me out?

Thanks,
Nel S

Re: Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure

I am answering my own post.

Upon further research, I found that Vista was trying to access the floppy
disk--The Inspiron 530 doesn't have one.

I entered setup and susbstituted "none" for the entry 'Floppy 1.44 Mb'
in Standard Bios.
