Question Dual OS error??

Okay, so i have an HP pavilion with preinstalled vista home premium on it.

I decided to try and run 2 OS's, vista, and XP, so i shrunk the vista parition and formatted an 80 GB winXP partition, so i popped in the disc and everything seems to be setting up fine, XP setup loads files and drivers, and before it even lets me select which partition to install on, beofre setup fully loads, it bluescreens, and i can't figure out why. I am booting from a disc, XP version 2002. Can someone help me?

Re: Dual OS error??

Hi, Hp do not support this:-

Quote:
While documentation on how to use dual-booting may be available on the web, HP does not support computers that have been set up in a dual-boot configuration. The dual-boot requires hardware drivers for both operating systems, and HP does not provide drivers for components that were not designed for the specific operating system. Such a configuration change may require you to reinstall the original software image when troubleshooting possible software and hardware issues with technical support.
Additionally, even if you could find some generic third-party drivers that would allow you to setup a dual-boot configuration on your notebook, you should consider the size of your hard drive. Each operating system takes up a considerable amount of space on the hard drive. Installing both XP and Vista may limit the amount of space that you have available for other applications, which will degrade performance.
Now it might be possible You will find that most of the drivers from Vista (provided it's 32 bit XP and Vista, 64 bit XP and Vista) could be copied to a dvd and you could use an "Answer file" to do the install. If you do not know what I mean by "answer" then maybe best to forget it. Otherwise google for it have a read and if it you think you can manipulate the install then have a go GOOD LUCK

Re: Dual OS error??

Hi Musicman,
As Jenae states HP does not support downgrading to XP.
Your issue is probably the need for the SATA drivers.
XP needs to have Sata drivers installed during the installation.
This can be accomplished by either slipsteaming the Sata drivers to an XP iso image or the floppy method.
Also you should check to see if HP does have drivers for XP. If they do not you may have to search for the drivers (you may not find them all).
Can you give me the exact model of this HP Pavilion?

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Dual OS error??

Hi Musicman,
Here is your spec sheet:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...629325&lang=en

Here is what HP has to say:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...629325&lang=en

These are the drivers HP has (NO XP Drivers):
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...29325&lang=en&

You should also take a look at this:

Slipstreaming XP/Sata drivers:

The drivers I did find so far.

Intel Matrix storage manager (SATA Driver) and Chipset Driver (Both on same link):

Lan Driver:

Microsft UAA Driver:

Audio:

Or

This is what I have come up with so far.
Let us know how you make out.
Thanks,
Bill
