Vista locking up, safe mode restarting

Hi all. Got a bit of an issue with my laptop.

It started a few days ago and I put it down to an overheating issue, so I left it for a bit and turned it back on; no help.

When I log on I get about 2 minutes to do whatever on it before everything locks up. The "working" indicator by the pointer still moves and the pointer itsself responds but nothing else does. The accessing indicator on the case also indicates that it is not busy.

Went to try a system restore but somehow all my restore points are gone too.

I started trying to remove my videos and photos from it in safe mode but safe mode keeps freaking out; whenever I click the start -> documents menu I get a file system error 1392 and the help menu appears like it does when you first get on in safe mode.

Any help on this would be appreciated since a lot of irreplacable pics are on there and I use my laptop a lot!

EDIT: FRAK! It just died completely

Right. After dying completely for a few hours its back to the locking up shenanigans. Same scenario as above. Anyone got any ideas of where to start with this one?
