[SOLVED] some programs unable to connect

Running vista on a new HP pavilion dv4

Problem:
can connect to the internet with firefox (to do this).
can connect with Skype.
can't connect with IE.
can't connect to register MS Office.
can't connect to itunes music store.

Using Norton Internet Security. checked the firewall, all programs allowed.
Windows firewall is off.

I have limited experience with vista. Limited experience with firewalls.

somewhat perplexed.

some more info. I'm on a home network, and other computers on the network can connect to the iTunes store, and use Internet Explorer.

These symptoms are the same, whether on the wired or wireless network.

Also, the laptop can't connect to Microsoft on-line help program (part of vista).

I need help.

This past weekend, I tried connecting the laptop in question to another, completely different network. The same symptoms are there. It must be something to do with my computer, but I have no idea what. Why would some programs get access to the internet, and some not? Particularly why not the Microsoft programs?

As of five minutes ago, this problem no longer exists.
I started up the laptop on the original network, and everything works fine. iTunes, explorer, MS office registration. I have absolutely no idea why.
This thread is "solved" i guess.
