EEK! Repeated BSOD - No apparent pattern?

I'd like to say in advance thanks for any help to be gotten on this site! Appreciate those willing to offer their time and efforts :)

Now for the issues;
- Computers been crashing quite frequently for the last few months, I can include dump files from before and afters.
There doesnt seem to be a pattern entirely as gaming, music, internet browsing and even just idling can seem to trigger it.

Thought this was a heat related issue and had a water cooling setup installed, however the system still crashes just as frequently, though from the little we can read of the dump files it does seem to have changed the output in the files.

Aside from more aggressive cooling, all drivers (video, sound, cpu, mobo, etc) have been updated and are current to the best of our knowledge. Memtest86 showed no error when running. Antivirus has been un-installed and re-installed, still no change. Last week the computer was formatted in hopes perhaps the issue was somewhere in that task.. no luck. Though again it appears to have changed some of the output in the dump files. Not all.
The RAM has been removed and tested with less, trying to see if it was only one slot or one chip causing the problem, and that didnt seem to cut any of them out and the computer was still crashing.

The computer set up is as follows:

Processor: 2x Intel Core 2 Quad QX9775 3.20GHz (1600MHz FSB) (Supports Skulltrail D5400XS Only)
Motherboard: Intel Skulltrail D5400XS (Supports up to Two QX9775 Processors) V8 Platform
System Memory: 8GB FB-DIMM DDR2 at 800MHz with ECC (High Performance)
Video Card(s): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
*proccessors are clocked at 3.6g (this was done pre-purchase)

Its running Vista (64bit)

Appologise for the length, hope I've included all needed details and again, any thoughts, suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated!

(attached is dumps from 4 different days, since starting to occur (there is none from august as the computer wasnt used in august), each day picked, attached is each dump, as you can see some days its Very frequent!)

Re: Repeated BSOD - No apparent pattern?

Add on to the problem, pc has been shutting down withOUT BSOD, just shutdown. Had done that a few times, and now video card is not working. This is the second video card this has happened too in this computer. Tried different slots, as well as different cards (all same model however). Any clues anyone? Again thanks in advance.

Re: Repeated BSOD - No apparent pattern?

Hi LJA. . .

I just wanted to post to let you know that I have all 23 of your mini kernel dump files and am processing them. Apologies for not getting word out sooner, but I was unable to get on very much w/ in last 24 hours.

So far I am seeing several 0x124 bugchecks - WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

WHEA = Windows Hardware Error Architecture and indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. The problem is that I don't have symbol information for WHEA records to interpret them. WHEA is a huge $$ project and as far as I know, corps like Intel, NVidia, etc... (Fortune 100 types) are the ones that I have read about that are so far involved. One basic premise behind WHEA is to better ID probable cause in hardware BSODs. You can read more on WHEA from Microsoft WHDC.

There is an Event Viewer log file specific to WHEA - take a look. Bring up Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and expand trees - you're looking for Applications and Services Logs - -Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-WHEA - just keep expanding the tree. Check Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), enable hidden devices (View tab, enable hidden) - any red/yellow flags?

Some of your dump files are incomplete - corrupted. This could be something like RAM or HDD. I read your post - please run chkdsk /r and memtest again. Vista x64 should not have any problems w/ 8gb RAM - plenty of additional room >8gb for memory addressing!

I sit on the software side of the fence and really don't get deeply involved in hardware problems as I am not familiar with them (no real hands-on time). But others here do. Please provide manufacturer and wattage of power supply; temps; volts, etc.. whatever you think someone hardware savvy would want to see. they will ask for add'l if needed.

In the interim, I need system info from you - Please download the attached zip file and extract the batch and exe file to your desktop.

Go to your desktop, right-click on the batch file and select run as administrator. The black cmd/DOS screen will provide status as it runs. Other screens will also appear. Even on your system it will run for 3 - 5 minutes. The output will be in a sub-directory of your documents dir named TSF_Vista_Support.

One other item that you will need to run - a Vista Health Report - PERFMON. Bring up an elevated admin DOS prompt -
START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe - run as admin | then type:

perfmon /report

Output will appear in ~ 60 seconds in IE7 screen. Please save it as an HTML file - web page. Zip perfmon and the new folder up and attach to next post. Attachment limit is 5 - 1.96mb files, so if you have to split them, that's OK.

Any ? - pls let me know.

Regards. . .

Re: Repeated BSOD - No apparent pattern?

Hi jcgriff2,

We got a new video card going. Still crashing. Though we did manage to run the files you sent, as well as look through the device manager, there was nothing there out of place. The event manager however had at last look 106 events under the WHEA tree. Is there a way to export the information for others to see?

As for hardware, the powersupply is a 1200W Thermaltake (triple and quad SLI compatible) ToughPower edition.
I dont have the temps or volts. I will update as soon as I get that information, I had forgotten previously.

Attached is the output files, as well as the perfmon report. Along with 2 dumps from today while getting this information. We've left the computer off since getting these done as we are worried about another video card going on us.

Hope this helps find something solveable. Thanks again.

Re: Repeated BSOD - No apparent pattern?

Hi. . .

Unfortunately, I can't do much with the WHEA records as I don't have the WHEA symbol files - no one that I know does. But I'll take a look at the event viewer records, so please save them. Go into event vwr then click on Action (top-left) then "Save Events as.." - provide a file name, the system will add the evtx file extension. I doubt that I can do much w/ them as I have not yet found the WHEA record formats for Vista.

Regards. . .
