New powersupply problem?

Hi

I am running vista. I just upgraded my older 350 watt power supply to a 550 watt psu, as well as upgraded my graphics card to a hd 4870.
Now when I start up my comp it goes to a black screen with a blinking underscore..

Have I not installed them correctly or what? Im pretty sure I installed the graphics card right, and im guessing maybe the power supply?

thanks..

Re: New powersupply problem?

With this video card, you should have purchased a qualty brand name 750 watt power supply like a Corsair 750. What power supply did you purchase (brand name) this time? 550 watts is just not enough.

Re: New powersupply problem?

its a BFG 550w. The card says it only requires 500 watts, and recommends 600 watts for for crossfire. So i figured 550 w would be enough..

Also, right before the black screen with the blinking cursor, is flashes "checking NVRAM" in the bottom left corner.

Re: New powersupply problem?

I am fairly certain that a BFG power supply (= poor quality) is not strong enough to pull that graphics card. YDo you know someone who has a decent larger power supply to put in there to try?

Re: New powersupply problem?

It can't be the graphics card, because it runs. When the graphics card does not have enough power it beeps. I had that problem a long time ago with anonther card, and recently with this card with my previous 350 watt. Now with the 550 watt, it doesn't beep and it runs. When i start up the comp, i get past the start up screen, and I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Do you know of any other possibitlities to why this is not working???
