URGENT Help Needed.
i just f***** up my laptop.
I'm getting several virus detections from Windows Defender and on startup its telling me some .dll file is missing. I'm pretty sure that has to do with the trojan. I think it was named gugvatja.dll or something like that. Also, I was playing a game, went full screen, and couldn't get back to normal res. Everytime I tried to go back to the half screen or whatever its called it wouldn't do anything. I put my res higher but it still isn't right. The res I needed is like in between what happened after I went full screen and what it is now. I'm thinking of restoring unless you guys have any better ideas. Thanks in advance for your help. Re: URGENT Help Needed.
Hi Slapshot. . .
Sorry to hear of most recent troubles. Unfortunately, I cannot help w/ virus or malware issues b/c of forum rules so all I can do is provide instructions to you to proceed to our Security Center, HiJackThis Log Help. There are 5 steps that must be followed b4 you post your HJT log. IMPORTANT – Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help Personally for me and knowing a little more about you from the last time you were here, I would go ahead and re-install Vista and be done with it. That of course is your choice. Any ? = just let me know. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
Do you have a recovery partition?
I can tell you that the file in the screen shot is not a Vista module. JC . |

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
You can boot into SAFEMODE w/Networking - you may find things there easier to handle.

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
If you are speaking of the resolution in SAFEMODE, that is it. Only the native VGA driver gets loaded in SMode.

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
What does the device manager have to say about this?
Did you recently make any changes to the video adapter or video drivers? Does the resolution look like SAFEMODE? Have you gone into Control Panel and adjusted settings? The problem here now is that your system is/was infected and that alone could be causing the video problem. You will have to make the decision - security center/HJT or Vista re-install. Are you able to do re-install if it comes to that? I remember something happened to your recovery partition and that you never made discs... correct? JC . |

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
The res problem and trojan are unrelated. It looked like the safe mode res but I changed it. It still isn't the regular res that I had though. I was playing a game, went into full screen, and whenever I tried to go back to the regular sized window, it wouldn't work. Then I got stuck on that huge full screen res.

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
Did you check for updates to your video drivers?

Re: URGENT Help Needed.
I would suggest that you try another monitor and if possible to try your monitor on another system. It also could be a problem w/ your video card. I still think it could be related to virus. You really need to either get to HJT to have your system checked out and declared clean or re-install Vista before the video can be properly addressed.
I am sorry, but I really don't see any other options at this time. We need to know the Vista OS is stable. JC . |
