Dark Screen Problem

A friend's laptop didn't seem to be working and he gave up on it so I want to try to fix it! :)

This laptop has a very dark screen, I can't make out anything on it unless it's in bright light.

I'm not really sure where to start on this so help me out, please.

Re: Dark Screen Problem

Starting with te basics, have you tried using the brightness command on the keyboard? Usually its the [fn] key AND the the up arrow?

Re: Dark Screen Problem

Hmm, I tried that and it doesn't seem to have worked. BTW when the computer starts up everything is visible and slightly pink-tinted, dunno what that could mean.

Re: Dark Screen Problem

I want to make this clear- I'm no expert. I came here for help myself but from what it sounds like to me, with that pink tinge, either the GPU or the laptop screen itself is damaged in some way.

Neither of those options is easily fixable. I honestly would suggest calling a local computer repair shop and seeing if they would be able to identify a fixable problem and get an estimate. Also, I dont know how old the computer is but it might have a warranty that will cover damage like that.

Alternatively, if you want more opinions you might try posting in the laptop section of the forum.
