Re: Vista X64
Hi. . .
Welcome to TSF - Vista Support. What is it that you are looking for... utilities, office-type products, etc...? Because of Vista's x86 compatibility mode, most 32-bit programs will run just fine on x64. Take a look on your c: drive - you have 2 Program Folders - the one named simply that is x64, the one with x86 after it is 32-bit. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Vista X64
I have a few of these as well!
Well, one item that I usually do on Vista systems is to change the boot-up screen from the MS bars screen. Easily done w/msconfig. START | type msconfig into the start search box - click on msconfig above. Click on the boot tab and check the box marked "No GUI boot"/ Click apply, OK - then re-boot. You'll see the screen. Not sure if this is "cool" or not, but it is a little different. Other items to try is to google for crystal icons - there a ton of packages available. I don't install them to change all as you can do, I usually download a few and then change certain desktop icons manually via right-click and selecting properties, custom tabs. This is all visual. On the utility side of Vista, if interested in such - click on the SysInternals Suite link in my sig area and download the zip file on the top-right side from Microsoft TechNet. Mark Russinovich is the primary author of these dozens of products. You have Process Explorer, which is like Task Manager, but provides much more information. AutoRuns is another great one to use to see what is loading into your system. Desktop is the newest - you can have 4 separate desktops using this product. You have the snipping tool - START | type snip and hit enter - to capture various screen images. And the Vista sidebar - you can choose the gadgets if you have not already done so. START | type sidebar into the start search box - hit enter. Good Luck w/your new x64 system. If you run into any difficulties, start a new thread here at TSF. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
