[SOLVED] My computer is way slower now.
I have 5 gigs of ram, 3.2 dual core, 7950 gt xfx, DG965RY intel and ect...
my system was working great, untill i had a problem with an update it was the KB937287, i run a x64 windows vista ultimate, my processors performance seems to be the reason from what i can see on the update my score it went down from 5.0 to 4.1, and for some reason when i put 2 gigs to my 3 gigs which made my total to 5 gigs my ratings for ram didn't budge,,, And also due to the same update i had to get a new hard disk it didnt let me access my computer at all, i couldn't system restore, i couldn't check disk no nothing the only way i could acess it was by buying a new hardisk, unplug it while it boots and boot with the new one and after im in and the computer had time to boot i reconnected it and i could see all my stuff but i cant check for errors and so on, there are system errors and i cant repair it with check disk, and i cant format it not even with the vista disk, i wana format the old windows partition so that i could use it, what can i do to solve the problem and be able to boot with both hard disks ? i tired to system restore format normally and so on but no luck so any ideas how i can resurrect it ?? :S Last edited by Serenatous; 09-02-2008 at 08:33 AM. |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Hi. . .
Please download the attached zip file and extract the lone batch file to your desktop. Go to your desktop, right-click on the batch file and select run as administrator. You will see the black "DOS" screen appear and scroll followed by the green status bar. It will take a few minutes to run. It will dump 10,000 event log records, run msinfo32 and dxdiag. The output will be in a new folder found within your documents folder named TSF_Vista_Support. Also, please click on the Live SysInternals AutoRuns link below in my sig area. Save it to desktop. Right-click on it - run as admin. Save it as an ARN file - you'll see the default ARN file extension when you save it. Zip the contents of the new folder up (3 files) + the ARN file and attach to your next post. Any ? - please let me know. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Hi. . .
Thank you for running the batch file and AutoRuns. I picked up the 4 zip files and will take a look at them. Before I do, a few questions, please: 1. Is your goal here to have both drives connected to the same system at the same time? 2. Was the RAM upgrade post kb937287 install? 3. As far as you know, there were no problems w/the old drive prior to the kb? 4. Do you recall the date of the kb install? 5. Did the kb come in via Windows Updates or did you manually install it? 6. kb937287 is a pre-requisite for Vista SP1. Did you try to install SP1 prior to this - whether a beta (RC) version or the official production release? 7. What happens to/within the system when you change hard drives? I would think there would be problems with the registry, page file, etc... not to mention kernel-mode memory. 8. Continuing #7... Do both drives right now have the same Vista product key code? Obviously there may be hardware issues here. Please download and install Everest so that information is available for someone from our Hardware Forum to look at. Also, please post power supply manufacturer, wattage, etc... anything else you deem appropriate. Well, that's more than a few questions so I'll leave it here for now. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
1. yes my goal is ultimately to run both at the same time.
2.Nope my ram upgrade was after i got my new hard drive and reinstalled windows on it, so after kb and new hard drive. 3.nah the old one was running perfectly with out any problems untill the whole kb thing started then it all went down. 4.the update was around thursday or friday last week so approxiamately i think 4 to 7 days. 5.nah it came via update, i never did it manually, i know stupid me for that, but i never bother checking every single one i just look at some not all. 6.Nope i didnt it was the first time i was going to install it, i had a problem with svhost it kept closing and giving me an error that a svhost kept shutting down, i did a post here on it, and i was recommeneded to upgrade to sp1 so i did, but its not his fault, i dont blame him, as they say **** happens .7.Nothing because i dont change them i just open the computer and i wear a glove then i connect the other hard drive to the system, after that i go to the control panel, then i opened device manager and scaned for plug and play and then bam its there .8. yes they both do i have the second one the old one partitioned it shows as f and g, f is the one with the system and sadly yes they both have the same product key. i will post on the next one about everest. Thank you very much for your help and your time. p.s my power supply is 350 watts i know ###### and weak , but im going to upgrade to a 600 atleast soon, but not yet.again thank you very much for everything, and your time, because your just doing it to help and nothing for return thank you .

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Hi. . .
Thank you for all of the files. I do have some items to go over with you that I found in them. One of the first itmes that I noticed in the various reports is that the TrustedInstaller failed at his job. The TI is the one that installs all programs and Windows Updates. What could make him fail on a new x64 Vista install? These unsigned drivers belonging to COMODO dated November 2006 certainly are the primary targets on my radar screen: Code:
Comodo Firewall Miniport No NET 3.0.0.1 11/20/2006 COMODO oem20.inf Not Available ROOT\NT_INSPECTMP\0003 Comodo Firewall Miniport No NET 3.0.0.1 11/20/2006 COMODO oem20.inf Not Available ROOT\NT_INSPECTMP\0002 Comodo Firewall Miniport No NET 3.0.0.1 11/20/2006 COMODO oem20.inf Not Available ROOT\NT_INSPECTMP\0001 Comodo Firewall Miniport No NET 3.0.0.1 11/20/2006 COMODO oem20.inf Not Available ROOT\NT_INSPECTMP\0000 Code:

As for the memory - this looks fine to me. The page file appears to be system managed @5.23gb - just right for a 5gb RAM system. Available = 3.71gb; used RAM ~ 1.3gb Code:
Total Physical Memory 5,052.95 MB Available Physical Memory 3.71 GB Total Virtual Memory 9.99 GB Available Virtual Memory 8.95 GB Page File Space 5.23 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys COMODO must go - no doubt about it. You cannot have unsigned drivers loaded for kernel mode applications - this will inevitably lead to your return here for BSOD-related issues. This product has caused many system service crashes and apphangs within this new Vista install. You virtually have no installed programs, so my recommendation is to wipe the drive and re-install Vista. Choose an anti-virus product - but I would not install one with a firewall. I suggest you use the Windows Firewall and none other. I would not recommend COMODO be used in any manner. I have seen much damage done by this product within Vista. Upon logon into your new Vista install, allow ALL Windows Updates to come in and I will be willing to bet that SP1 will be among them. This would include kb937287. As for the hard drive - partiton f: is corrupted. Exactly how this happened, I am unsure. I would not place it in the system until your are up, running and updated - after all Windows Updates are in - including SP1. After that, plug it in and try running chkdsk - but from an elevated administrator level - START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Administrator. Code:
chkdsk /r These errors come at the rate of dozens per second for drive f: Code:

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Hi. . .
So you were able to format the f: drive and solve this issue? AVG v8 would do just fine for A/V. I have 2 Vista systems here running it - one x86, the other x64. Please let me know how you make out. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Hi. . .
I don't believe that you would need to re-format the HDD after upgrading hardware. As long as the HDD is healthy there s/b no problems. I have not yet "enjoyed" the experience of replacing the hardware items that you mentioned. Just be very careful that any hardware you get has Vista SP1 compatible drivers, where applicable. So, its been 2.5 hours since your post... has SP1 come in yet? JC . |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /r The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) thats what i got when i tried to do it so what should i do ? |

Hi. . .
select Y and allow it to re-boot. The drive must be un-mounted. JC . |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
Sorry... by un-mounted I mean that Vista OS has a lock on it - it is the one the message is referring to as it is using it.
By selecting YES, chkdsk will run before the drive is mounted during the next boot-up - which you will start by select re-start after selecting Y to the message! JC . Last edited by jcgriff2; 09-04-2008 at 02:23 PM. |

Re: My computer is way slower now.
There is no need for you to unplug anything - select YES, then re-start.
