Computer shuts off while scoring my PC.

At the very beginning of the performance score the computer shuts off completely. Also as soon as I start a 3d game it shuts off. It first started this when I installed vista 64, but I don't think that's the problem.

I'm running an antec SP 500w psu
AMD 64 x2 5600+ cpu
8800 GTX graphic card
150g 7200 RPM sata HD
Creative SB audigy gamer x-fi sound card
and a cdrw/dvd-rom drive

My first suspect is the PSU, it's about 3 years old but I don't have a 2nd one to try. I want to find out what is causing the problem before I go and buy something I don't need.

The temperatures are running normal; 34 idle on the cpu and 45-55 under load. The mobo runs around 30 degrees idle and 35-40 under load.
GPU runs at 65 idle and 70-75 load. All seem normal temps. The cpu fun continues to spin so thats not the issue. I took everything out and dusted everything.

Can a corrupt HD cause this? It's been driving me nuts for almost 2 weeks now. any help is appreciated
