Windows Media Center - No Audio Device Detected

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 4520 series laptop and everything was working fine until recently. When I try to play a DVD through Windows Media Center, the screen will turn blue and a message will say that there is no audio device detected. Also, windows media player is also unable to play DVDs. It can still play music and video files located on my computer, but DVDs are a no go. What would you suggest I do?

try using this open source program andyou don't need any extra stupid codecs to go with it
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
I use it for playing everything video related.
It loads up faster and when you skip forward it it loads faster too than media player

i had the same problem when i installed a philips internal rewriter. could play dvd's for a month then nothing.i had installed nero that had come with the product but it turned out to be just a trial period.nero and windows media would not play dvd's.you need to get the codecs. in saying that the vlc player suggested by Mcninjaguy should work fine as well and its free.

The only thing that still confuses me is that it played all DVDs fine before, but now it plays none. Are codecs really the only possible problem?

did you try playing the DVD through the VLC player ???

You may want to try an older version of the driver for your audio card. If your PC has the embedded Realtek Hi-Definition Audio controller, the most recent drivers (2009) do not work with Windows Media Center on 64-bit Vista. You get the "audio device not detected" error. (and maybe other OSs too) I downgraded the driver to version 6.0.1.5548. To check the type of card and version, go into Control Panel -> Device Manager (or Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager), click Sound and Video Controllers, and click the audio card.
