[SOLVED] Installing - unable to detect HD
As implied by the title I am unable to detect my HD while attempting to install my 64-bit Ultimate version of Vista. I am using http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...D&locale=en-US as my only HD. I get to a screen that prompts me for drivers for my device, however I can't seem to locate any drivers for this drive online.
EDIT: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L is my MoBo Last edited by Dweezel; 07-23-2008 at 01:28 PM. |

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
I tried using drivers off the CD for my MoBo, and the only ones I can find don't show up when the "Only show drivers compatible with hardware on this computer" is checked

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
The drive is entirely new, as is everything in the build.
"Note: there are no Vista drivers provided by Seagate for any Seagate or Maxtor branded PATA or SATA drive, as the drives themselves are all Plug-and-Play within Windows Vista when connected internally on your computer. " Trying to find something on the Gigabyte site, nothing so far. Last edited by Dweezel; 07-23-2008 at 02:26 PM. |

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
Could the problem be my MoBo does not have drivers for 64 bit?
EDIT: Sory for double post before, meant to edit and I replied. EDIT2: Would flashing a new BIOS be worthwhile? Last edited by Dweezel; 07-23-2008 at 02:53 PM. |

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
Thanks missinglink, trying to find that option in the BIOS now.
EDIT: The only thing I see is Legacy IDE mode vs Normal IDE mode, and I can't get it to work with either. Last edited by Dweezel; 07-23-2008 at 04:51 PM. |

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
I still have a 7200.10 Barracuda as my secondary HDD, and though my primary one is a 7200.11 now, I installed Vista many times on the old one without a glitch (well, at least not any that I could attribute to the disk).
I suggest that you check that your HDD is connected to the *first* SATA plug on the motherboard. If you have a SATA CD/DVD drive, it should be connected to the second one. Theoretically, this should make no difference, but in practice, it does. |

Re: Installing - unable to detect HD
I do not see any option called "SATA controller" or "SATA mode", if it is any help the BIOS recognizes the HD, but Windows does not when I'm attempting to install.
EDIT: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2778 is my MoBo manual if you have time to check it out and perhaps point me in a more specific direction. EDIT2: I may have found it, trying now... I'll provide an update soon Last edited by Dweezel; 07-23-2008 at 05:56 PM. |
