[SOLVED] explorer.exe problems
Hi all,
I'm having problems and need some advice. I'm running Vista Home Premium (32-bit) but I'm not sure whether this problem was caused by the OS or not. Anyway, I've lately been trying out different burning software demos and one (DVDFab) prompted me to restart my system to be able to start using it, which I did. After logging in to Windows, however, I get a black screen and a window to access my profile/Documents. Luckily this allows me to access my hard drive but it seems as if explorer.exe is not properly running. Upon checking Task Manager, in fact, it is listed on the processes tab. I've also tried running explorer.exe as a new task and my desktop will then appear but only for that session, once I restart, the black screen problem reappears. Thinking to try System Restore, I found another problem. When trying to execute SR, I get the following error: "There was an unexpected error The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (0x8007007B) System Restore will now close." I've run both a virus and spyware scan and both didn't find anything. I also tried a hijackthis scan but the information was understandably arcane but I can post the results if that will help. Anyone have any other suggestions about things I can do, short of reformatting my whole HD? Thanks in advance.
