The code up there that is of most help right now is the c0000005 = 0x00000005 = 0x5 and means that a exception has occurred by a driver that attempted to access memory in an area that it should not have, or the memory address was bad. It most likely is the result of a non-Microsoft program that you installed that is not agreeing with Vista's regiment. Here are some areas to check: • The Device Manager - START | type dev man into the Start Search box | right-click on Deice Manager that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | look for any red/yellow flags - pay specific attention to the video area. • Problem Reports and Solutions: START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check'. • Reliability and Performance Moniter: START | type perfmon into the Start Search box | right-click on perfmon that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view both the Performance Moniter and the Reliability Moniter. The next time this happens, note the exact time, then go into the Event Viewer and look through the various logs at the entries just prior to and at that exact time. START | type eventvwr into the Start Search box | right-click on eventvwr.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs. Also, run the Windows Vista System File Checker/Repair utility program. START | type cmd into the Start Search box | right-click on cmd.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | A command prompt (DOS) screen will appear. Type the following - note there is a space after sfc - sfc /scannow Let it run - it may take +/- 10 minutes - possibly longer. Good luck to you and please let me know how you made out. This seems like it could be the problem but im not sure how to uninstall old mobo drivers. There is an option to uninstall all NVIDIA drivers, but i would assume that would include my graphics card drivers which is also an NVIDIA product. Quote:

Re: Explorer.exe crashing
There is one other thing to try if you would like - force a 0xe2 BSOD and produce a kernel dump -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944564/en-us It must be a kernel dump, though - which will be +/- 250mb in size. You will need to change your system crash settings from mini-dump to kernel dump. I would then dbug it to see what, if anything I can find. Let me know. . . JC . |

Re: Explorer.exe crashing
Recently after upgrading my RAM from 1Gig to 2Gig (and my system recognizes the 2 gig) I now keep getting Explorer crashes.
It tell me this program keeps hanging: svchost.exe:AudioClientRpc I've never had a problem with this program before and the drivers and the most up to date. I've run registry cleaners, defragged the driver, virus cleaners and nothing has cleared this up. Running Vista Basic 32bit and Toshiba Satellite laptop is 2 years old. Thanks for your help

Re: Explorer.exe crashing
Sorry, but I disagree that Windows Explorer is a "common problem". It may appear as such out on the NET during Google searches, but there is usually a good reason for a system crash, app crash or app hang. I rarely experience Explorer crashing and when it does, I can usually pinpoint it by using various utility tools found within Vista. There is one system here over 1 year old that has never had an Explorer crash to my knowledge.
I would suggest that you 1st look at anti-virus and 3rd party firewalls, especially if ntdll.dll is mentioned as the driver involved or if you notice an error/exception code of 0xc0000005. Also at the top of my list - Windows Updates and your system manufacturer driver updates - are they all installed? The tools that I mention within Vista that may be of help: » Problem Reports and Solutions - START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box - hit enter | view "See Problems to Check" first, then the other selections on the top left of the screen. » Reliability Monitor - START | type perfmon /rel into the Start Search box and hit enter. View the Reliability Monitor looking at the red X's and the information below. » Event Viewer - START | type eventvwr.msc into the Start Search box and hit enter | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs - looking for the date/time of an Explorer app crash. » Device Manager - START | type devmgmt.msc into the Start Search box and hit enter | click on View - enable hidden devices | Look for red/yellow flags » Vista System Health Report - START | type perfmon /report into the Start Search box and hit enter. View the output looking for errors that would appear on the 1st page. I would also suggest running SFC - the System File Checker/ Repair utility - START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select run as Administrator | the black command prompt ("DOS") screen will appear | type sfc /scannow - hit enter. Re-boot upon completion so that "files in use" can be repaired. And to reiterate - Windows Updates - are you updated with Vista SP1? Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
