[SOLVED] Vista Sharing Problems
I have 2 pc's at home running Win Vista with SP1. I never had a problem with drive sharing until a few weeks ago.
Both pc's can see each other in the network menu but they can't browse each other's shared drives. It give an error: 0x80070005 Access is Denied. Both pc's have the same workgroup, both use the same IP range, Password protection is off and both has network discovery and file sharing enabled. I've tried pinging the pc's and ping works fine. Firewalls are disabled, I've even gone and uninstalled them and still no luck. I have searched the web a bit but can't find a sollution, some folks say Vista cannot share the whole drive so I tried sharing a single folder but the other pc still isn't able to browse that folder. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. |

Re: Vista Sharing Problems
Hey,
We ran into this problem at work as well. Everything seemed to be setup fine for sharing, but there was a security setting in some weird place that we had to change. If I remember correctly the solution was to turn on File and Public Sharing in the Network and Sharing Centre. If not try adding a group to the Security settings with the name of Everyone and giving this group Full Control to the folder. Hope this helps! Sean |

Re: Vista Sharing Problems
Yes I did check the settings and everthing still (in my understanding) should be fine for the pc's to be able to see and browse each other, I don't know any more. I hope it's a network issue and MS releases an update to solve it soon..
Thanx for the help though secarrol! Last edited by OomGert; 06-30-2008 at 12:30 PM. |

Yeah, I found the solution!!!!!111111!!!!!!!1!1111111111111elevenoneone!!!!! Thanks to my work colleague and secarrol's help I found the solution.
Step 1: Right click on the Folder/Drive that you want to share (Make sure you have Administrator rights) Step 2: Click Properties Step 3: Choose "Security" tab Step 4: Under the Group or User window click on the "Edit" button Step 5: Then under the next Group or User window click the "Add" button Step 6: In the "Enter the object names" window type: Everyone Step 7: Choose the permissions that will be applied Step 8: Apply all the settings and there you go :) This is also useful if you want to add seperate permissions for different pc's\ users. Thank you!
