Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
As of late, I've been experiencing some very odd slowdowns at completely random times. Normally its a complete system slow down, my mouse only moves in slow, jumpy, delayed movements, animated GIF images (if on screen) will slow down or stop...etc etc.
The other thing, which I feel is connected to this...is if I have music playing via iTunes, through the internet, etc, if I do something like open a program or click a website link (any change in web page, normally only while loading) the song will break up, mouse goes jumpy for a moment...etc, only until it stops loading. It seems like its some cache thats filling up too fast and just stopping data...but I've had much slower computers not even come close to doing odd things like this...but then again, I've no other computers that run vista. I find it odd to have this occur since it has plenty of memory, plenty of hard drive space, video is integrated, but 256 variable is allowed to share...I frequently defragment (both Diskeeper & Auslogics DD), I run AdAware & SB S&D, and AVG 8 on a daily scan, so I'm almost positive I've no adware, malware, trojans, etc.. Specs I can throw out are.. Toshiba Satellite A135-S4407 Intel Core Duo T2250, 1.73GHz, 2MB L2 2GB DDR2-533 (PC2-4200) 100GB 5400 Hitachi SATA HD Thanks for any help that might be available. |

Re: Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
Hi PontiAddict -
Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support! I suggest that you check these areas for further information if you have not already done so yet: • The Event Viewer - START | type eventvwr into the Start Search box | right-click on eventvwr.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs. • Problem Reports and Solutions: START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check". • Reliability and Performance Moniter: START | type perfmon into the Start Search box | right-click on perfmon that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view both the Performance Moniter and the Reliability Moniter. Another area to try is to force a BSOD 0x000000e2 (user induced - keyboard) which will produce a kernel dump (systems settings must be so set for kernel dump vs. minidump), which may help ID a cause. HERE is the Microsoft bulletin with information to do so. If the kernel dump is produced, I will be glad to take a look at it. Also, in the interim, please run msinfo32 saving the output as a NFO file. You can attach that to your next post. Instructions: • MS32info NFO file - START | type msinfo32 into the Start Search box | right-click on msinfo32.exe | select Run as Administrator | respond to User Access Control prompt | System Information will then come up | save the report in System Information File (NFO) format by selecting File, then Save As. Good Luck to you. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
Thank you for the response.
I looked into your suggested solutions and found nothing that would help me. This doesn't seem to be an application error, but just more like a data bus slow down. At least the sound breaking up occurs every time I load a page with lots of graphics, and continues until its fully loaded. The mouse jumping seems to occur especially when I'm doing something intensive graphically. Utilized physical memory doesn't seem to have a lot to do with it...and this only just started happening in the past few months and I've been running this OS and laptop since right after Vista was released. I will do the memory dump, but can't until I have an external keyboard; my laptop keyboard doesn't seem to have a scroll lock key, heh. I am attaching the NFO inside a zip file as it won't allow me to attach an NFO. |

Re: Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
The NFO file contains no information as it reports that WMI (Windows Management INstrumentation) is not available. Do you have any system serices disabled?
Also - the event viewer does contain much more than application information. There should be dozens (50+ ?) of event logs that contain a ton of valuable information. Regards. . . jcgriff2 p.s. you would be very surprised at the amount of items that could have accumualated in your system since January 2007. I have seen 6 month old systems that have similar symptoms from excessive startup or logon programs. A sure item to look at is the usage of the page file, which can easily be seen in the Task Manager or the Performance Moniter. The msinfo32 would be a start - were you able to view the data as it appeared in the viewer prior to saving it? All of this, hardware issue(s) - the data bus you mentioned, notwithstanding. . Re: Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
I'm on a laptop running Vista Home Premium, no optical mouse, no external anything, and the mouse is jumping all over the place. I primarily use this system for email and it takes 20 attempts to get through typing an email. I've got McAfee running, so shouldn't be any crud on the system.
What am I missing? Is there a simple fix to this? I've searched forums and not seen a clear, concise answer for this. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Re: Slowdowns/Jumpy Mouse Movement
Hi. . .
As I mentioned, the NFO file was empty due to a WMI error. Run the vista System File Checker/Repair utility - sfc - START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select run as Administrator | the black command prompt ("DOS") screen will appear | type the following: Code:
sfc /scannow Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
