In Vista Ultimate, classic view, when I go to perform the normal shutdown, I get this little menu, with "Sleep" as the default setting:
![]() I'd like to change that, probably in the registry, from "Sleep" to "Restart". To restart the system is the only reason I ever go to that menu. To just shut down the system, I use a shortcut Icon on the Desktop. I would NEVER want to put the system to Sleep. ![]() Any ideas would be welcome. Maybe even a script? ![]() Thank You, The Shadow

Re: Change Default Shutdown Option??
HeyTheShadowFl
You can create a shortcut on your desktop for restarting your system ![]() 1. Right click on your desktop and select New 2. Select Shortcut 3. In the box for Type Your Location Of Your Item type the following: Shutdown.exe -r -t 00 4. In the box for Type A Name For This Shortcut call it like Restart or something you would like 5. Click Finish, Right Click on the icon and select Properties and then select Advanced 6. Select to Run As Administrator to make sure it runs first time You should now be able to double click the icon and restart your computer ![]() Regards Craig

I could fill my desktop with Shortcuts, but that's not really what I wanted to do.
I already have the "Shutdown" icon: %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f Just re'doing it with -r instead of -s would do it, but again, I'd like to know how to change the default option in the shutdown context menu to "Restart" instead of "Sleep". If I could find a little script to do it, that would save me untold time when setting up Vista for my customers. I already give them the Quick Shutdown Icon on their desktops. I've done that since the '98 days. Anyway thanks for the suggestion. The Shadow

Re: Change Default Shutdown Option??
Mmmmm i know how to disable the sleep function in Vista Ultimate but the registry tweaks, cant get them to work
1. Click Start, Run and type MMC 2. Navigate to Local Computer Policy snap-in under: Computer configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Sleep Settings 3. Disabling both allow standby states Should do the trick for disabling it Regards Craig
