I am trying to install Office 2003 on a machine running Vista. Each time I attempt the install, it runs successfully until end when I receive a message stating "Error 1324: The folder path '.' contains an invalid character." Once I click "OK," it rolls back the installation.
I have tried right clicking on the Office2003 zip file, and selecting Run as Administrator, but I receive the same error. I have searched the regedit for "." and found one instance, which I removed (in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GABEST\VSFilter\DefTextPathes\PATH0 Reg_SZ .). I restarted and tried again - still same error message. Any assistance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Vista Install error - Error 1324: The folder path "." contains an invalid charact
Quote:
Good morning Camilla08 - Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support! I have seen error 1324 before - but it does come in many shapes and sizes. So, let's see what we can do to help you through this. First, I'd like to take a look at the contents of a registry key. Bring up an ELEVATED command prompt START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe up top | select Run as Administrator | answer the UAC prompt - Continue/enter Admin password Now... copy and paste the following into the "DOS" command prompt box - EXACTLY as it appears - reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" > C:\error1324a.txt & start notepad c:\error1324a.txt If you have problems with the paste using ctrl-v, then right-click on the top of the "DOS" command prompt box then select "Edit" then select paste. Either way, a notepad should appear with the registry key contents inside it. Then copy all and paste results in your next post and I'll take a look. I have also attached a text file to this post containing the same command as above - in case that would be easier for you. Please let me know if you have any questions... OK? Regards. . . jcgriff2 |

Re: Vista Install error - Error 1324: The folder path "." contains an invalid charact
Hi Camilla08 - Those registry entries look fine from here. Next, I'd like to get a complete dump of your system's folder names to see if that provides a clue. Bring up an ELEVATED command prompt START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe up top | select Run as Administrator | answer the UAC prompt - Continue/enter Admin password Copy and paste the following into the "DOS" command prompt box - EXACTLY as it appears - (the first is for drive c: - the second for drive d:) - dir c:\*. /a /o:g /s>c:\folders-c-042208.txt> c:\folders-c-042208.txt & start notepad c:\folders-c-042208.txt If you have any questions, please let me know. Re: Vista Install error - Error 1324: The folder path "." contains an invalid charact
Hi: I have just reviewed your thread and I have been having the same problem. I am looking to install the Solver add-in for Excel 2007 on a machine running vista. I have the output of the final execution you suggested (it's too large to post).
If you have a solution that doesn't involve me sending youthe final that would be great. The only other option right now would be a system reformat (since I can't even uninstall office). Thank you! Blair Rogers |

@b3rogers -
Please start a new thread as yours relates specifically to Excel 2007 - also, I have some different ideas than were used here over one month ago. After your own thread is opened, please PM me and I will respond. Thanks you. . . jcgriff2 |
