Question D-link DI-614+ router incompatible with Vista??

I am using the above named router, and it does not appear to work wirelessly with Vista. I have updated the firmware to the latest version from D-link's site. It does not have a Vista-specific firmware update..which is what it really needs. btw..yes, I can hardwire it with an ethernet cable. My question is, has anyone ever worked with this router and know a way to backdoor it?

The messages I receive when I try to connect are:
1st: "Connection unsuccessful" (yea real informative..)
a link appears for Diagnose the Problem. I click that and it tries to diagnose the problem. This leads to:
2nd: "This computer has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources"
I can then view the settings so I can set the wireless network security key (which is hand-entered and definitely correct), I can get new ip information (see below), and view wireless networks (its showing up there, but otherwise a useless choice)
I choose to get new ip info and the dialog states "Repairing.." and has a progress bar which eventually fills all the way up. It then says:
3rd: "Choose another repair option" and basically it says that the ip reset option didn't fix the problem. The only thing new at this point is the statement that something may be wrong with my modem or router, and to reset it by unplugging it, or to ask me about it. This doesnt work either, talking to myself or resetting it. Restarting while unplugging the modem and then letting both start separately (and together) doesnt work...

I am out of ideas. I read elsewhere that there is a fix but its not detailed enough for me to understand. Little help?
