Kb936181

I'm running Vista Home on a one year old laptop. The following update:

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)

has installed MANY times in the past month, sometimes more than once a day, all of which are indicated as "successful." I just did a manual update (instead of letting it automatically update), and when the laptop rebooted, there was the message again stating that an update was available and it's the same update. I saw an answer to this same issue online, and was instructed to do the following:
“Give downloading and installing KB941833 a try:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
If that one fails too and/or KB936181 is still being reoffered afterwards,
have a look into the "Known Issues" section of the MSKB article dealing
with KB936181: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936181”
I tried all of this and now I’m getting an error that says “ERROR OPENING INSTALLATION LOG FILE. VERIFY THAT THE SPECIFIED LOG FILE LOCATION EXISTS AND IS WRITABLE.” So it won’t allow me to install the “fix” – back to square one. Can anyone help?
