[SOLVED] VISTA Ultimate x64 install problems

Here is a little information about my system I built.

EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6700

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

CORSAIR Dominator 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model

So I am having a problem with installing Vista Ultimate x64. I am running 2 WD raptors that I want to have set in a RAID 0. In the EVGA bios I enabled SATA 3 and SATA 6 as RAID drives. Once those settings were changed I went into the RAID Management software that is also part of the BIOS. In there I added the 2 drives to the RAID column with both of them being mirrored and then set the as bootable.

Next I restart and put in the Vista install DVD. It runs fine I put in my serial and then select the unpartitioned raid array. I partition it for the full size of the hard drive (139.7G) and then formated it. I then started the installation and everything went fine up till when it said it had to reboot the computer. When it reboots it goes to the normal Windows load screen and then pauses a second and flashes a blue screen. On the blue screen it tells me " A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." It also says, " Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message , disable the driver". In the stop message it says: " 0x0000007E (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff8000985e251, 0xfffff98000a05b98). It also mentions something about removing memory options such as caching or shadowing but I didn't see that anywhere in the BIOS. I am fairly certain there is enough disk space to install since there is nothing else on the drive.

No mater what I do I keep getting that blue screen. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it came back saying that there were no issues.

Everything in my machine seems to be working fine and all of it shows up in the Bios. Also according to my motherboard which gives me status codes it is "FF" which in the book means "Boot" which I would assume means all systems go.

I tried to install it several times and there seems to be no luck it just continually shuts down with a Blue Screen. I also tried to disable the RAID setting and install the Hard drives separate to see if it was my RAID that was causing the problems but that did the same thing.

If anyone can help with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. I have the machine built and this is the only thing that is holding me back. Thank you for your time.

So I found out what the issue was. In case anyone else ever gets that error. Looking at a German tech site I found that it is related to bad memory. I removed 2 gigs and did the install and everything worked great. Install went through fine after that. Looks like these are getting a RMA.

Thank you very much for this - after reaching desperation I found your thread and am now in the final stages of installation after I took 1 of my DIMMs out. As a follow-up question, once the product is installed, can I add back the 2 gigs I took out?

You will need to run the appropriate hotfix for your version of Vista (32 or 64). This should fix up the problem.
