hi,
my name is Gyll and I'm a computer technician at Circuit City but i've been having an issue with my chatting software that i have been troubleshooting for weeks with no success! here are the specs of my system: sony vaio laptop VGN-FZ240E/B 2gb ddr2 ram 250gb HDD wireless N Windows Vista Premium WIndows Live OneCare Internet Security I'm using a wireless connection via a belkin router. my computer started having problems recently. i will explain in detail if i am on ANY type of chatting software, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN messsenger, even like teenchat.com, or true.com or some online chat rooms on Internet Explorer it will lock up and i will have to restart the software over and over. it is EXTREMEMLY ANNOYING! it will also freeze my webcam if its in use and the other parties webcam also. Sometimes, i will be chatting with a person and then I will still be talking and getting no response and it will sign on and off on its own and a friend will call me and ask me whats goin on...all the while..my AIM is signed on on my screen THE ENTIRE TIME! i have tried to turn off my firewall(s) and one care, scanned for trojans and malware. my friend who is extrememly qualified recommended that i try connecting to a land line and/or delete all of my network connections including LAN and then restart the computer and let them find themselves again. I will troubleshoot further but am wondering if anyone else has had this issue with Vista and if there is a way to fix it. Thank you in advance. |

Re: AIM, MSN, IE, Yahoo Messenger Freezing!
I would suggest looking at your internet connection. Maybe do not use the router and see if that helps. Vista seems to be bad with drivers, at least for me. I reinstall my wireless card averaging once a month now and afteri do the internet is more stable.
IM clients are very sensitive when it comes to having to be conected and they will show a problem first before anything else. Last edited by Snoopdogie187; 02-20-2008 at 05:39 PM. |

Re: AIM, MSN, IE, Yahoo Messenger Freezing!
thanks for the tip!
the only issue is that i need the router to connect. the main comp is in the office and my laptop is in my room. i dont have a phone jack in here to hook up wired or anything like that. so my signal has to go through the router. im just wondering if i really should try and delete all my connections and restart.... im going to try that... will keep updated. |

Re: AIM, MSN, IE, Yahoo Messenger Freezing!
I would suggest redoing the router set up you have, maybe play with the router settings too if it is only the one laptop useing it. Also just for testing purposes you can set the laptop up with out the router to just check if it is a problem with the wireless somewhere.
