Vista cant find hard drives.

So, i have tried and tried to install Vista home premium on my compuetr for days now, but no luck. The problem is that vista cant find any hard drives. I have 2 Maxtor 160Gb sata drives in raid 0 ( striped ) Windows Xp has no problem finding them, but as soon as i try to install vista the fun stops.

I ran the vista upgrade advisor and it didnt show any problems, well, it said that my soundcard wouldent work, but thats no big deal, other than that it shouldent be any problems. so, does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem ?

Thanks.

Re: Vista cant find hard drives.

I dare say that you will have to install the raid drivers during the initial stages of the vista install, You can install them at the point were your hard drive should be listed in the box were you choose a hard drive to install onto. You will notice below that box there will be "driver or install drivers " listed. Make sure you have the driver ( the raid driver for your SATA controller ) on a floppy and follow the prompts

Re: Vista cant find hard drives.

Ive tried that, but it just tells me that no drivers where found ?? My motherboard is a Asus P4P800-E Deluxe, ive tried to find drivers at Asus web page but not found any.

Now, the strange thing is that i have 2 Maxtor hard drives, and i have installed Maxblast 5 and Seagates seatools and seagates discwizzard, and everytime i run either of those 2 progs i get an error message saying that i need to have atleast one Maxtor or Seagate hard drive installed for the program to work ??

Re: Vista cant find hard drives.

Have a look at this guide from another of our staff members, it will detail how to make a correct floppy.

2. Make IAAR floppy.
Create a floppy containing portions of the IAAR for use later. This is discussed in Section 4.2 of the Intel IAAR README file. The procedure is detailed here:

2.1. Create a target folder (eg. F:\Pc\IAAR\Files) to hold extracted files.

2.2. Choose Start Menu- Run.

2.3. In the "Open:" window type
F:\Pc\IAAR\Disk1\Setup.exe -A -P F:\Pc\IAAR\Files

where F:\Pc\IAAR\Disk1 is where you extracted the downloaded IAAR content in Step 1.2. Note there is a blank on both sides of -A and also -P.
This is discussed in Section 6 of the Intel IAAR Readme File.

2.4. Click OK. Setup runs. Note that you are only extracting files at this point, not actually installing the IAAR as a driver.

2.5. Click Yes to accept the Intel licensing agreement.

2.6. A bar graph briefly appears, goes up to 100%, then disappears. The operation is complete.

2.7. Check the target folder (eg. F:\Pc\IAAR\Files) to be sure new subfolders now exist there.

2.8. Insert a formatted floppy into your floppy drive.

2.9. Open the "F:\Pc\IAAR\Files\Driver" subfolder and copy the following 4 files into the root folder of the floppy:

iastor.cat, iastor,inf, iastor.sys, txtsetup.oem

2.10. Eject and label the floppy "IAAR boot files" for later use.

You can get the drivers from here

Re: Vista cant find hard drives.

this is the file you will need to do the above

Intel(R) Application Accelerator RAID Edition 3.5R for Windows 2000/XP
Support Windows XP and Windows 2000
Support RAID0/RAID1

It will be under the driver tab in the link above

It only lists XP and not vista, I have not play'd with the intel controller since vista was released so considering that is all that is listed just try it and see how you go, if it fails let me know and i'll hunt around and see up to what point you can use later drivers
