svchost.exe chewing up download limit
Over the past few days i used the entirety of my download limit, and i could not see why until i realised my internet was downloading constantly. I began ending processes that i knew were not important until i was left only with a few needed process and my 12 svchost.exe processes. Ive now norrowed it down to the one that uses the second largest memory, and everytime i end it my network usage with hit 0. Now.. i can keep ending it like this, but its annoying and i was wondering if there is any way i can stop it doing this. Im too afraid to delete it incase it causes problems being associated with sytems processes.
Thanks for any help |

Re: svchost.exe chewing up download limit
Hello and welcome to TSF
![]() svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Unless it could be a back door Trojan Is your hard drive/s losing memory on it? Have you found any files most likely illegal, on your system? What secruity programs are you using? |

Re: svchost.exe chewing up download limit
It is an important process, although i have seen things about problems disguising themselves as an svchost, but these seem to just use all your ram slowing your computer rather than using your internet, and 13 of them running at the same time seems an abnormally large amout but im comparing that with windows xp, i dont have much idea with vista.
I havent noticed any harddrive space being used, tho i have been capped since my limit ran out and it has not had a chance to download much more. Im currently running NOD32 antivirus, ad-aware 2007, spybot search and destroy, i havent got a firewall as i havent been able to find one certified for vista that i thought would be any good, so thats a bit of a security weakness. Ending the process doesnt seem to cause much trouble with my computer, i havent noticed anything not working, well i have but thats when i have ended multiple by accident not getting the right one. |

Re: svchost.exe chewing up download limit
I recommend that you go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)
Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can. Good Luck with it. |
