Slow, Slow Slow burning and unzipping

Lets say I have 30 files and each on is in a rar format and all together is just over 4gb(the size of a dvd). It takes almost an hour to unrar them? The end result is a 4gb .img file. Once that is uncompressed and I go to burn it to a DVD it also takes close to an hour.(My burner is only 2.5 but it should'nt take that long)

Does anyone know why these precesses take so dam long?

is it still as slow when you disable any realtime scanners?

oh yea to add: Normally when I burn the light on the burner stays on through the entire burn. Now it flashes every few seconds

Any change with anti-virus scanners disabled?

Also, is this a newly formatted and installed version of Vista?

As for your DVD drive..have you tried cleaning the lens? What type of discs are you using to burn with?
