Vista and O&O Defrag

Hi, ive got O&O Defrag for Vista.. I use it because its better than Windows defrag...

But the problem is when i analyze the HDD with Vista on it finds all of the "system volume information" as fragmented files... I can see why because there all over the driver... About 30% of my HDD is fragmented, when i use O&O defrag it starts to defrag but when it gets to any system volume information they turn to lock files and the defrag skips them.. Leaving them all over the HDD. Its slowing down the seek time on my HDD and everythink....

Is part of the system volume information the "restore points" for windows restore. Because i can disable the restore and windows should delete the files then..

Re: Vista and O&O Defrag

Ok... I figured out that all of the system volume information is the stuff windows uses to restore files... Ive managed to delete them cuse i dont need them...
But how do i move the MTF areas to the front of the drive aswell as some locked files like the Usn Journal.. Its scattered at the back of my HDD.. Also the pagefile is scattered aswell

OS: Vista

Re: Vista and O&O Defrag

I'm running O&O Defrag 8.6 Professional Edition (build 2294), which works fine with Vista.

To defrag the MFT:
1. Open up O&O defrag and click the file menu then 'options'.
2. Click the "Offline Defragmentation' tab.
3. Select the 'Execute once during next system startup' radio button.
4. In the 'Select volumes' box single click the drive whose MFT you wish to defragment and then click the 'Activate' button.
5. Click 'apply'.
6. Click 'OK'.
7. Close O&O defrag.
8. Reboot the machine.
