How can I check the partitions of my hdd in grub?
I went and did a very silly thing recently but I think if I can find out how to list my partitions in grub or by some other method that requires no OS to be present, I should be able to fix it.
Long story short, I installed an x86 version of Solaris 10 on an x64 laptop and it messed up the booting process so I can't get back into Vista :( Thanks in advance to whomever can help! (I've tried the recovery disc option by the way and upon pressing F11 I simply get a blank screen..) |

You need to reinstall the vista bootloader. Insert your vista disk (if you have one) and repair your vista instalation. Upon reboot you should get the grub bootloader up, and you'll be able to select which OS you want to boot.

Re: How can I check the partitions of my hdd in grub?
See, there's the problem. I got my laptop with Vista preinstalled and didn't get a disc so I'm stumped. I thought about obtaining the disc "by other methods" but I want to do this legally...what can I do?

Re: How can I check the partitions of my hdd in grub?
Contact the vendor you purchased your laptop from, for a disk for reinstalation and repair purposes, shouln't be a problem (although some unscrupulous vendors will refuse and say you have to send it in for repairs - at your expense - don't use them again!!)
Because you have a genuine licence, using a backup copy of the vista instalation disk should not be a problem, however make sure it comes from a trustworthy source, NOT one of these "wares" sites... Instead try borrowing a copy off someone who has an original disk, or has made a backup copy of one. |
